Thank you thank you thank you! You are making this world a great place and couldn’t be more excited! Love to see the landscape and soul of IT changing such as it’s been a long time coming.
We should hire for competence alone. That has been and always will be the only fair system. If the final population is overrepresented by any particular group then those are the people who decided to make those particular skills a priority in their personal development. It’s not a problem and means nothing more than that.
If you really want to improve fairness, do blind interviews with voice masking so you don’t know anything about the individual other than their ability to display their skill set, problem solved.
The pareto distribution is a real thing and we are going to break the world trying to bend it, and we will ultimately fail anyway, or at least, I’d bet on it. We need software that solves real problems, not a self-congratulatory slog that will ultimately change nothing and push us right into the very totalitarianism we claim to resist.
